Tips for Finding the Perfect Dental Insurance Plan

February 15, 2019Cassell DentistryDental Health

If you’ve been thinking about purchasing dental insurance for yourself or your family, then most likely you’ve got some questions about what type of insurance is the best.

Picking out the right dental insurance can be tricky, especially with all the fine print and nuance that comes with selecting a plan. If you’re about to move forward with securing dental insurance, we have some solid advice to help you make a sound choice.

Understanding Deductibles, Waiting Periods, and Limits

Many people purchase their dental insurance with the intention of using it right away. It makes sense, right? You want to have it for when you need it. That’s why it often comes as a big, unpleasant surprise to discover that many dental insurances have a waiting period in place before you can use it.

If you suspect you’ll be needing your dental insurance sooner rather than later, then take a look at the waiting period on the plan you select. Some plans have none, but some can be as long as 18 months or more.

Another consideration is your deductible and your limit. Most dental plans have a small deductible, usually below $100, but make sure you know for certain before you buy your plan.

Also be aware that most insurances have upper limits; some only cover up to $1,000 per year, and if your planned procedures exceed that, then that may not be the ideal insurance for you.

Speaking of procedures, it’s good to know which ones are covered by your insurance plan. If you purchase a dental insurance plan with the intent of having specific dental work done, you definitely don’t want to be blindsided by discovering it isn’t even covered!

When in Doubt, Ask the Experts

It’s also extremely important to confirm that your dental provider takes your insurance. Our office would be happy to help answer your questions about choosing a dental plan and clear up any lingering confusion about selecting the best plan for you and your household.
